Make these today. Honestly — they were a game changer for me.

These energy balls are ridiculously easy, totally delicious, and made with just five simple ingredients. They take minutes to throw together, keep brilliantly in the fridge, and last forever in the freezer. Perfect for when you want something sweet, nourishing, and instantly satisfying.

This is my basic energy ball recipe, and once you have it down, you can adapt it any way you like.

Makes around 22 balls, depending on size.

You’ll need

  • 200g almonds
  • 400g dates (Medjool if possible — if not, just soak your dates in hot water and drain)
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2½ tbsp almond butter
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil (melted)

Method

  1. Whizz the almonds (or nuts of choice) in a food processor until nicely crushed.
  2. Add the dates and coconut oil and pulse until fully combined.
  3. Add the almond butter and cacao and pulse again.
  4. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball. Repeat until finished.
  5. Place in the freezer for about 1 hour, then store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Health Design tips 💚

  • Any nut or nut butter works — use what you love.
  • I often use half figs, half dates for extra sweetness (raisins work well too).
  • Adjust quantities to taste — I usually use less coconut oil as it can be overpowering.
  • Roll in 70% dark chocolate, desiccated coconut, or crushed pistachios for a treat.
  • Please check labels and avoid dried fruit with sulphur dioxide — stick to 100% fruit.
  • My girls love these and could easily eat several in one go.
  • For school-friendly versions, try sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and oats instead of nuts — just play around until the texture works.
