I don’t know if this even qualifies as a recipe as it is ridiculously easy to make, but it tastes super delicious and my kids love this instead of regular ice-cream.  Some of the neighbour’s kids are hooked too – honestly!

You can mess around with this to taste.  I don’t add any maple syrup and often add less yoghurt and a little milk.  Feel free to add more cacao powder to make it even more chocolatey.

This delight is packed with ingredients your gut will love. Live active cultures from the yoghurt, and potassium, magnesium, and fibre rich bananas.

You’ll need

Method

  1. Peel and slice the bananas. Place in a freezer-proof container and pop in the freezer for at least 6 hours, ideally overnight.
  2. Once the bananas are fully frozen, add them with the yogurt, cacao powder and maple into a blender or food processor and blitz until smooth.
  3. Pour into a freezer-proof dish and place in the freezer for about two hours.
  4. Serve to your hungry maggots.  Save some for yourself too (Purely for tasting purposes😊)

Health Design tips 💚

  • Ensure it’s cacao and not cocoa powder you’re adding.  I like this Irish brand True organics,  can get in Dunnes.  Cacao is full of antioxidants.
  • You can add any toppings you like here. One option is a pecan crunch. Dry fry 50g pecans over a medium heat (about two minutes, tossing regularly). Once they start to brown, drizzle over some honey, (around 2 tbsp to taste) and stir. Whip from the heat and allow to cool, then break into pieces and scatter on top.
  • I don’t get too sciencey with this, and tend to throw this together at will, sometimes serving it as chocolate milkshakes instead. Just skip stage 3 above.  Insanely good like this. Serve in a snazzy glass with a fancy straw and grate some chocolate on top.  Your children will think they have been whisked to Eddie Rocketts.
